Acoustic guitars, breathy vocals and melodic tales of love and hardship will be on the menu as the Auckland Folk Festival rolls around town over the anniversary weekend. Making its musical return after two years of restrictions and a COVID-19-related hiatus in 2022, the festival’s 50th anniversary will take place at Kumeu Showgrounds over four days from January 27 to January 30, 2023.

A lineup of international and local folk acts will take to the stage, including the three-part harmonies of Melbourne/Naarm-based Folk Bitch Trio, Edinburgh-based duo The Jellyman’s Daughter, local Maori songwriter and storyteller Te Kaahu, American folk music star Sneaky Bone and Irish fiddler Manus McGuire – plus many more.

Attendees will be able to watch traditional dance performances and songwriting competitions – and even try their hand at workshops and classes during the festival. Live music and children’s sessions will keep the young ones entertained and of course there will be plenty of delicious food trucks and places to relax in the lush surroundings of the fairgrounds. Those wishing to make a weekend of it can camp there while locals can make it a day – the exhibition venues are only 15 minutes from Auckland’s CBD after all.

Earlybird tickets and family passes are available now – visit the website for more information.
