Seven stages, 30 artists, and family and friends gathered for the love of live music … sounds a bit like a blast from the past, doesn’t it? After several years of smoking – or dealing with a global pandemic – stop the music, the Sisters Folk Festival kicks off this weekend. Originally taking place every August, festival organizers have moved it to October this year in order to plan around clearer skies. At the risk of inviting random puffs of smoke to blow at random, I will say that the weekend is shaping up to be sunny days which will be ideal for moving from place to place where “the whole town is one. scene”.

“The excitement is at its height here in the SFF offices as our team prepares to do what we love to do the most and haven’t been able to do in 24 months! Said Crista Munro, Executive Director of SFF. “We were all a little nervous that we forgot how to organize a festival, but no worries there.”

With a more limited number of tickets available this year (yes, the pandemic is still affecting things), the festival is already full – so for those lucky enough to have a pass, here are a few things we can’t wait to see. see at this year’s party. (And for those who missed it, next year’s SFF will run from September 30 to October 2, and tickets go on sale in early 2022.)

Charlie parr is always a favorite when traveling to central Oregon, which luckily for us is quite often. Parr brings his raucous rebel sound to the State twice at the SFF, as well as another performance at the Volcanic Theater Pub on Friday for those who didn’t secure SFF tickets.

Local musician Jenner Fox is on stage to support his new album, “Planet I’m From”, which was released on September 18th. The child of two river guides, Fox created his first album to sell to rafting clients, and now divides his time between whitewater guide, riding his cargo bike and performing.

“Jenner combines the lyricism of Joni Mitchell and commentary from Neil Young to represent the next generation of singer-songwriters,” said Cookie Marenco, Grammy Award-nominated producer.

Based in Nashville Wild ponies are one of the groups that bring the classic old-school Americana sound to the festival, as well as other old-fashioned sounds from groups such as Hay.

Earlier this summer, Ron Artis II and the messengers performed on the Munch and Music stage in Bend and brought the dancing party on, so if you haven’t seen them yet expect a good fun time.

Fans of a mix of blues, soul and folk should not miss Ruthie foster, a four-time Grammy nominee, who is known for her incredible voice and gorgeous writing.

And to close the Saturday night music at the local Belfry is Sisters Dennis mcgregor– who also creates each of Sisters Folk Fest‘s unique animal art posters – with her band The Spoilers, with support from The Haymakers. For those who want to switch to another sound flavor, check out the sounds of Changui Majadero, a Cuban group from Calfornie that plays the changüí sound, a style of music that predates salsa and Son Cubano music. The band wraps up Saturday night’s music on the Sisters Saloon stage.

There is so much more to love about the Sisters Folk Festival; one of the best things about a festival like this, with so much going on at the same time, is the ability to wander from stage to stage, finding music you didn’t know not but that you like now.
