The 70th Annual Florida Folk Festival will be held on Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29, 2022, at the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park in White Springs. The Florida Folk Festival is a three-day celebration of the music, dance, stories, crafts and food that make Florida unique. From Irish fiddle tunes, techno contra dancing and chocolate-covered key lime pie to the wide variety of music brought by immigrants, the state’s cultural heritage reflects the lives of generations of Florida families and communities. .
Throughout Memorial Day weekend, more than 300 performances give voice and meaning to Florida’s heritage. Each year, the Florida Folklife Program of the Florida Department of State studies a particular topic on Florida’s traditional heritage. The Folklife area of the festival will feature performances and demonstrations celebrating the diverse living traditions of a region of Florida. Be sure to visit the Folklife Zone to experience the fascinating traditions and savor the tastes, sights and sounds of some of Florida’s oldest and newest cultural communities.
At the Florida Folk Festival, you can sit with the masters who carry on cultural traditions. During jam sessions, demonstrations and workshops, try your hand at playing the mandolin, storytelling or making a basket of pine needles. Learn how to collect your family history or call out a square dance, or the importance of native plant and animal species. Take a shopping excursion and visit traditional and contemporary Florida artisans. Then dine on collard greens and cornbread, chicken pilaf and hoppin’ john, prawn gumbo, barbecue, curries, gyros and root beer floats. As the sun sets, settle in for moonlight concerts or dance the night away on the Heritage Stage.
