Surah: “Festival of India”, a folk dance video pre-recorded by the city-based group Taal, has been selected for the inaugural “Fest Folk em Rede” – an online event by the International Council of Folklore Festival Organizations and popular arts (CIOFF-Brazil), official partner of UNESCO.
The very first online “International Folklore Fest folk Mundiin Research” will be held from May 20 to 25 and will be broadcast online through its social networks. CIOFF was created in 1970 with the aim of safeguarding, promoting and disseminating traditional culture and folklore. Group founder Krutika Shah, architect and ballet dancer, told TOI: “We are extremely happy that our folk dance has been selected to be performed at a global cultural forum. It is the first online folk festival where cultural groups from 20 countries will send prerecorded folk dances amid the lockdown. “
Taal folk dance will represent India and will be performed on May 20 online on the global platform, said Shah, an accomplished dancer from Bharatnatyam.
She established Taal Group in 2005, which is an all-female group and performs folk dances in various national and international festivals. “We organized the first international Gujarat folk dance festival in Surat in January 2020, where participants from various countries including Poland, Slovakia, Indonesia, Romania and India performed,” he said. she declared.
