The Day of Lincolnshire Folk in Leadenham has partnered with Lincolnshire One Venues’ Creative Summer events and activities program to bid for a grant from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation which will enable a variety of community groups to organize their own activities , which will include performances, exhibitions and artistic workshops.
The one-day Leadenham festival of folk music, dance and song will take place across multiple stages and will be supported by The Hub in Sleaford. It will also have a craft market.
The project – titled Reinvent – has helped support a summer of creativity across Lincolnshire, with public events ranging from world music to local folk acts, and from dancing to community-inspired crafts, all supported by the places that make up LOV.
The groups benefited from the help and guidance of a community mentor, Hannah Standen, who has many years of experience running large-scale outdoor events, including Lumiere, a biannual light festival in Durham .
Hannah said: “It has been a privilege to work with passionate and hardworking creatives across the county who put on a fantastic range of events. I look forward to visiting them all.
Community groups and sites have welcomed the initiative.
Head of Exhibitions and Collection Interpretation, Andrea Martin, said: “This is a great opportunity for communities across Lincolnshire to come together and carry out exciting and creative projects inspired by local people.
Tom Lane, one of the organizers of Lincolnshire Folk Music, Dance and Song Day, who was one of the community organizations that applied, said: ‘Thank you so much for this grant. is a nice surprise that will ensure the continuation of our event in Leadenham.”
The organization will work with The Hub to organize its festival.
Lucy Lumb, Visual Arts Development Coordinator at the Hub, described the impact of the funding. “This wonderful event takes place on the first Sunday of August in Leadenham. Funding from Reinvent will support greater involvement of local residents and school children in the festival. It will also help the group find a stronger foundation in the future and provide a model for the future delivery of this annual event.
