Now in its ninth year, the Allen Valleys Folk Festival returns to Allendale in Northumberland with what promises to be another eclectic and exciting line-up of artists from around the world from friday 23rd-Sunday 25e September.

After being an online-only festival (for obvious reasons) in In 2020 and 2021, the festival returns to the eponymous valleys for a three-day celebration of music, dance and heritage, which takes place at a selection of indoor venues including The King’s Head, The Golden Lion, the Hall festivals and the picturesque St Cuthbert’s Church. . As always, the festival promises a wide program; festival president Peter Alcroft tell us more:[The festival boasts] broad appeal with a mix of styles ranging from traditional folk to world music. Headliners on Saturday include Tiwiza, a band steeped in African tradition but with a modern rock and roll vibe, and Balkan Hot Club, whose pulsating style has won over festival-goers across the UK. Headliners also include acts such as BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards winners The Rhyesnotgans Sisters (Saturday) and popular Scottish band Talisk (Sunday). Diddley Squat, Belta Reivers, Brothers Gillespie, Claire Hastings, George Welch & Christine Jeans and Chris Ormston are among the other artists to look forward to.

You hardly need an excuse to visit the beautiful surroundings of Northumberland, but it sure is!
