The OTLEY Folk Festival is back this year, the usual third weekend in September, after missing the 2020 event due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Otley Folk Festival was first held in 1991 and it will be the 29th festival, which will take place on the weekend of Friday September 17th through Sunday September 19th.
This year’s event will be a smaller festival than usual, due to the context of the Covid pandemic, but still allow folk music fans to enjoy live music, Morris dancing and great beer. .
The official festival venues this year are the Otley Courthouse, the Black Horse – both the stables and the upstairs music room – and the Old Cock pub.
On Friday night, “fantastically talented” Katie Spencer will headline the concert at the courthouse. One of the best guitarists on the tour, she was spotted by bassist Danny Thompson who helped her launch her music career.
Other acts on this bill will include Duncan McFarlane and Anne Brivonese and Jon Palmer. The price of the concert ticket is £ 14.
Saturday night at the courthouse will be led by young folk superstars, Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Granny’s Attic, the trio will end the night and the opening acts will include Plumhall and Yan Tan Tether. The price of the concert ticket is £ 18
The Black Horse, now owned by the Kirkstall Brewery and the Brudenell Social Club, will host afternoon and evening concerts. Afternoon concerts, in the stables, are Saturday afternoon with One A Chord, Dave Vermond Trio and Bayou Gumbo and Sunday afternoon with The Hall Brothers, The Ale Marys and The Jon Palmer Acoustic Band .
There are folk clubs on Friday and Saturday evenings in the upstairs room.
The Old Cock, an award-winning, locally owned free house, is hosting a session starting at 11:30 am on Saturdays.
Tickets for the courthouse concerts will be available from the Otley courthouse. All Black Horse events will be paid for at the door. The Old Cock session is free.
The festival office will be at the Labor Club as usual. All up-to-date information will be available there over the weekend. The festival website is at www.otleyfolkfestival.com and the festival is on twitter @otleyff and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/OtleyFolkFestival/.

Steve Fairholme, Otley Folk Festival organizer said: “We are delighted to be back and to be able to host the Otley Folk Festival this year.
“We’ve carefully kept things back this year, but it’s great to have star performers of the caliber of Katie Spencer and Granny’s Attic, as well as some great local performers. We hope people support the concerts at Otley. Courthouse, the Black Sheep and the Old Rooster as well as enjoying the pubs and dancing.
“We are looking forward to a great weekend and then a full size Otley Folk Festival next year. ”
Last year’s Otley Folk Festival was canceled due to the pandemic. The 2019 Otley Folk Festival saw dozens of acts take place at venues across the city starting on Friday. The shows included a Friday night appearance at the courthouse by famous guitar and harp duo, Chris Newman and Mairead Ni Chathasaig, with backing from Kitty Macfarlane. The audience also enjoyed the Friday night performances at several other venues.
