A fantastic folk music lineup is set to banish the coronavirus blues at a unique special festival, organized by South Kesteven District Council, with funding secured from the government’s throwback fund.

National and local artists will perform throughout the day, in venues across Grantham.

The Welcome Back Folk Festival takes place on Saturday March 19 with the first act, Malt Whiskers, on stage at Grantham Market Place at 11am.

Music in the Market Place will conclude with a set by Scottish singer-songwriter Sandy McLelland at 7 p.m.

Other attractions include food, drink, market stalls, talented cartoonist John Elson, circus performances at Pendragon Circus and performances around town by the Bourne Borderers morris dance team.

The entertainment will continue into the evening, with several pubs hosting live music.

The council’s visitor tourism and economy manager, Jade Hope, said: ‘We have a full day of – music lined up from a variety of local and national acts to ensure there will be something for everyone.

“The funding obtained through the Welcome Back Fund allows us to organize this unique event. The pandemic has hit our main streets and our hospitality businesses extremely hard, so it’s critical that we don’t just spread the work to get our town centers back and open for business, that we support them in every way possible.

“The festival is not just for folk music lovers, it’s an opportunity for everyone to enjoy live performances, while supporting the city center and the hotel industry.

“Grantham will be vibrant with locals and visitors from further afield. It will be fantastic for them to see Grantham in all its glory.

The Welcome Back Fund has provided councils across England with a £56m share of the European Regional Development Fund to support the safe return to high streets and help them recover from the impact of the pandemic.
