Who plays at the Purbeck Valley Folk Festival in Dorset

PURBECK Valley Folk Festival has gone international this year with a stellar lineup of artists from around the world.

Headliners include Mexican party band Los de Abajo, as well as Guinean N’Famady Kouyaté, a master of the balafon – West Africa’s traditional wooden xylophone, and Gasper Nali from Malawi, who serves Afro Beats from his monochord, home-made three-meter-long Babatoni bass guitar.

There’s also a big portion of Americana/country from Amethyst Kiah, The Once, Laura Cortése & the Dance Cards and Dana Wylie.

This year marks the return of global stars to the five stages of the conveniently located festival after pandemic travel regulations made last year’s event purely domestic.

The 2022 event, which takes place August 18-21 at Purbeck Valley Farm off the A351 between Corfe Castle and Harman’s Cross, will also feature English folk royalty in the form of top roots duo Show of Hands.

Festival Director Catherine Burke said: “We are thrilled to be back in full force for PVFF22. Our amazing line-up would do justice to any folk festival and we are especially happy to welcome back our international artists.

Children’s activities include storytelling, drama workshops, fun crafts, puppet shows, bubble talk, baby/toddler nursery rhyme sessions, face painting, treasure hunt, bouncy castles, disguises, maypole and Morris dance workshops.

Tickets are on sale now from £150 (£75 youth / £30 child) for the Thursday-Sunday weekend including camping. Any remaining tickets sold at the door will be £165 / £85 / £30 See purbeckvalleyfolkfestival.co.uk/shop/tickets for details.
